「EXITO’09T」

これだけ見ると訳がわかりませんが、Tシャツ展のタイトルです。
デザインはウルトラグラフィックスの山田英二さん。

東京の「ITO」というBARが会場なので、正確に書くと「EXHIBITION ITO 2009 T-SHIRT」ということなんでしょうね。
山田さんが中心になっているイベントのようで、全国から24名が出品。札幌からは僕のほかにワビサビと岡田君が参加しています。

でもほかのメンバーを見たら、やめときゃ良かったなって後悔してるんですよ。
もともとファッション系苦手だし、ポスターと違って勝手がわからない。テーマが自由っていうのもくせ者ですしね。

久々に悩んで出来上がったものが、ただのパターンになっちゃって。やれやれ。

実は意味があって作ったヴィジュアルなんだけれど、
この展覧会について“ある勘違い”をしていたものだから結局意味不明なデザインに。やれやれ。

さらにこの展覧会、東京、札幌、富山と巡回するもんだから、地元のみんなにも見られてしまうわけで。やれやれ。

富山のはせがわさんに「これってスイカでしょ？」って。

いずれにしても自分の意図と違って理解されるようで。

まあいいや、何も聞かないでやってください。

「EXITO’09T」

Mr. Eiji Yamada of Ultra Graphics designed this. It is hard to tell from this poster but “EXITO ’09T” is the title for a T-shirt exhibition. The exhibition was held in a bar called “ITO” in Tokyo. So the title is a shortened version of “Exhibition ITO 2009.” Mr. Yamada was the main organizer of the event, at which works of 24 artists from around the country were shown. From Sapporo, Wabisabi, Mr. Okada, and I participated in the exhibition.

But when I saw other participants, I regretted that I joined this exhibition. I am just not good at fashion related design by nature. It’s different from designing posters. For this exhibition, you had to decide the design theme by yourself and it just made the work much harder for me.

After a long struggle, what I finally came up with was just this pattern design. This design actually had a meaning, which was based on my misunderstanding about this exhibition. So after all, the meaning of the design made no sense.

What’s worse, my acquaintances in my hometown will also see my work because this exhibition will be held in Tokyo, Sapporo, and Toyama. Mr. Hasegawa in Toyama even asked me “Is this a watermelon?” Either way, I noticed that people understand it as something different from what I intended to express.
Well, I just don’t want to talk about this any more.
