さっぽろ地球村は、環境問題をベースに活動する全国組織「ネットワーク地球村」の札幌支部といったところ。

代表の高木善之さんの講演で、ショッキングな地球の現状を知ることになってから、
ずいぶん考えさせられましたので、応援の意味も込めてポスターを作ったんですね。

直接の活動に参加したり、自分の生活を大きくエコにシフトしたりなど、
なかなかできないでいるのが恥ずかしい限りですが、地球村の考え方はコンセプトメイクのベースになることが多く、
デザインの中で少しは地球のためになるメッセージが送れているかなと思います。

このヴィジュアルはバーコードの檻に入った現代人という設定なんですが、
経済的な豊かさの追求からなかなか抜け出せない自分たちを皮肉ってみました。

僕が幼稚園ぐらいの頃は冷蔵庫もなく、洗濯機なんか横についた手動のローラーで洗濯物を絞り出してましたし、
お風呂も銭湯でしたので、それに比べたら今はみんな超リッチな生活じゃないですか。

それでも、もっと便利でもっといい暮らしを目指してるんですね。
全員がそんなふうにしていたら資源が足りなくなって当たり前なんですけどね。
だからといって40年前の生活に戻れるかと言われるとなかなかできませんよね。
なのでできることから少しずつみんながやれればいいですね。車に乗る回数を減らすとか、ゴミを減らす工夫をするとか。

こういうことを真剣に考えるようになったのは、やっぱり子どもが生まれてからですね。
自分はそんなに長くは生きられませんが、子どもたちはこれからですからね。
なんとかいい状態で引き継がなきゃと思いますが、けっこう難しいかもしれません。

そして、仕事に追われてばかりいないで、なるべく家族との時間も大事にしないといけませんね。
この前テレビに、東京スター銀行の外国人頭取が取り上げられていました。
この番組、妻が一緒に見ていなくて良かったと思いましたよ。
彼は毎朝、まず家族のためのスケジュールを押さえてしまうそうなんです。
空いている時間に仕事を入れていくんですね。子どもが6人もいるんですよ。
人生の中で頭取は一時期だけど、父親は死ぬまで続くからですって。

僕は仕事優先ですよ。家族最優先ですけど。

Earth Village Sapporo is the Sapporo Branch of “Earth Village Network” basically working with environmental issues nationwide.

At a lecture by Mr. Yoshiyuki Takagi, the representative, I learned shocking facts about the earth and gave a serious thought. In a way, my support for their activities is shown in this poster.

I’m not participating to their projects directly or shifting my life style drastically to eco-mind and I’m a little ashamed, but their philosophy can be a base for the concept when I design hoping to send messages to help earth.

This visual image is people of today in a cage of barcode to make a sarcastic remark about ourselves not be able to emerge from searching for the economical richness.

When I was in a kindergarten, we did not have a refrigerator at home, and a washing machine had rollers to wring the wash manually and we used a public bath. Comparing to that time, we are all living in much richer life now.

Still people are going for more convenient and good living. Because everyone is doing so, the resources are short now, naturally. Not that we can go back to a life style 40 years ago. We all can start with what we can do, like using cars less and reduce garbage.

I started to think in this way more seriously after I become a parent. My lifetime may not be so long left, but the future is ahead for my children. I wish to keep the earth in a good condition for them, but it seems quite difficult.

Also I have to control my works to spend more time with my family. The other day, a foreign executive of Tokyo Star Bank was shown on TV. I was glad my wife was not watching this with me. The first thing he does every morning is to set a schedule for his family, and then put works in the free hours. He is a father of 6 children. He says that being an executive is only a short period in his life but being a father continues all his life.

In my case, the work has priority. Of course, my family is the first priority.
