タベルナ・メッツァルーナは円山にあったイアリアンレストラン。
今はもうありませんが、裏参道をまっすぐ西25丁目まで行ったあたりで大窯で焼くナポリピッツァがおいしいお店でした。

「メッツァルーナ」はイタリア語で半月の意味。
ここのオーナーは藻岩下のカフェ「ルース・ロウ」のオーナーでもある中村博美さん。
博美といっても男性なんですけど。
中村さんは月が好きなんですね。正確にいうと月の光が。
ご自身の会社の名前も MOON BEAMSっていいます。息子さんの名前にも「月」が付いてます。

半月っていうのは「明と暗」「白と黒」「表と裏」みたいに相反するものが一緒にあって、なんとなくドラマチックな感じじゃないですか？

このポスターは「月」という漢字を半分にして「光と影」を表現しました。
普通の文字だとつまらないのでデフォルメして新しい「月」を探して。

中村さんのお店はクラシック＋モダンな内装で大人っぽいんですよ。
本当はこんな軽いテイストだとその雰囲気に合わないんですけどね。

TAVERNA MEZZALUNA was an Italian restaurant, which was opened in Maruyama. It was already closed though. The Napoli Pizza baked in their big stove was really good.

“MEZZALUNA” means the half-moon in Italian. The owner of this restaurant was Mr. Hiromi Nakamura, who also owns “Ruth Lowe”, a café in Moiwashita. “Hiromi” sounds like a female name for the Japanese, but Mr. Hiromi is a male. Mr. Nakamura loves the moon. Strictly speaking, he loves the lightening of the moon. Thus, the name of his company is also “MOON BEAMS.” And his son, of course, has the Chinese character of the “moon“ in his name.

I feel the half-moon indicates something opposite such as “bright and dark”, “white and black”, and “ heads and tails”. I feel the indication is very dramatic.

In this poster I expressed “light and shadow” by cutting the Chinese character of the “moon“ in half. I also used deformation because the ordinary letter seemed a bit boring.

His store maintains the grownup atmosphere with its classic and modern interior designs. So, I am afraid that the light design taste of this poster might not fit with the store atmosphere.
