1998年頃から、AIR-G’（エフエム北海道）の仕事を時々やってました。
担当の方と仲良くなると勝手に提案するタイプなので、このポスターの場合もそんなパターン。
「イベント時に現場でAIR-G’が何かやってるとわかるものを」という依頼のような、
つぶやきのようなお話があったので、とりあえずノーチェックで作ってしまいました。

B1サイズに1文字ずつ入れた4枚モノ。
AIR-G’はFM局ですが、ターゲットはおもにOLと主婦。
フレンドリーが売り物なのでなるべくかわいいと言われるようにキャラクターっぽいものに。

まず音符に顔を付けた“おたまじゃくし”を作ってから、アルファベットと組み合わせてみました。
出来上がってみるとピングーを連想させますが、パクリじゃないですよ。並べてみると全然違います。

そしてこのころはB1の出力なんて出来なかったので全部印刷です。それぞれ50枚刷ってます。
４種類で20万円ぐらいかなあ。よくやったなと今は思いますよ。

この作品はJAGDA年鑑への出品を意識して作りました。
この年新人賞をいただけたのも、このポスターのおかげといえます。

JAGDA年鑑には各審査員のチョイス賞にあたる“This One”というのに、
2002年に急逝された田中一光さんと名古屋の岡本滋夫さんが選んでくれたからです。おふたりに感謝です。ありがとうございました。

I have been doing design works for AIR-G’ (FM Hokkaido radio station) once in a while since 1998. I often voluntarily start proposing poster designs once I get to know a person in charge. I also proactively proposed this poster before officially being asked to do so. I remembered the person in charge was saying that he wanted a poster which explains what AIR-G’ does at the site of the event. Thus, I made this poster just based on the talk without getting it checked beforehand.

I designed a series of four B1-sized posters on each of which one character was written. AIR-G’ is a FM radio station and mainly targets at office ladies and housewives. AIR-G’ wants a friendly image, so I made a cute character beloved by these targets.

First, I drew a “tadpole” by adding face on a musical note. And then, I combined it with alphabets. The finished character might remind you of the Japanese well-known character “PINGU” but trust me, I didn’t copy the character design. When you put them side by side, they look very different.

I printed fifty copies of each B1-sized poster. Just four copies cost about 20,000 yen. It was really expensive.

When I made this poster, I was planning to submit it to JAGDA almanac competition. I could pick up the award for New Artist of the Year because of this poster.

In the JAGDA almanac, there is an award called “This One” given by the choice of each judges. Ikko Tanaka, who passed away in 2002, and Shigeo Okamoto from Nagoya chose my poster for this award. I sincerely would like to thank them for it.
