JAGDA（日本グラフィックデザイナー協会）主催のポスター展に出品したものです。
会員だけに出品資格がありますが、こういうイベントに参加できるのがJAGDAの楽しいところです。

このときのテーマはJAPAN。

ステレオタイプではあるけれど日の丸をモチーフに。

まずは梅干しを1ケース買ってきて、いじくって顔を作りました。
最も笑顔のようになったものを自然光で撮影しましたが、梅干しは小さいので、かなりの接写なんですね。

スキャニングが上がって拡大してみると、けっこうピントも甘くって。
時間もなくなったので無理やり解像度を上げて、シャープネスかけたりして。

デザイナーのくせに、せっかちで、面倒くさがりなんですよ。良くないですよね。

その後、展覧会を見た東京の新村則人さんに言われました。
「アイデアいいんだから、ちゃんと写真撮らないと」って。そりゃそうですよね。

このときの新村さんの作品なんかはホントきれいでしたよ。
いろんな葉を並べて、グリーンの日の丸をつくってました。
もちろんきっちり撮影して。あたりまえですよね。

フィギュアスケートじゃありませんが、アイデアは表現点、仕上げは技術点という総合評価ですから、
僕のはせいぜい50点というところ。
アイデアも仕上がりも高得点の新村さんが僕の中ではベスト1でしたね。

I produced this one for the poster exhibition held by JAGDA (Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc.). Only JAGDA members are eligible to present works for the exhibition. It makes being a member of JAGDA fun and exciting.

The theme was “JAPAN”. I know it is what you call a stereotype, but I decided to make a poster in the motif of “Rising Sun flag.”

Firstly, I bought a case of Umeboshi, a traditional food consisting of preserved plums. I fiddled around with Umeboshi to make a smiley face on it. I photographed the Umeboshi smile face with natural light. Umeboshi is very small, so I had to take a picture up close.

When I expanded the picture after scanning, the picture lacked sharpness… Running out of time, I forcibly raised the resolution and increased sharpness. I should admit that I am an impatient and lazy designer.

Afterwards, Mr. Norito Shinmura, who saw my poster at the exhibition, told me, “You had a good idea. But you should have paid more careful attention for your photograph.” ….He is so right.

The poster produced by Mr. Shinmura was really beautiful. He made a green version of “Rising Sun flag” by lining up various leaves. Of course, his photo shooting was also brilliant.

If the scoring for posters is compared to the one in figure skating, you gain expression points from your idea and technique points from how you finish your work. Then, I think I will barely gain 50 points in a comprehensive evaluation. I think the work by Mr. Shinmura was the best one because of the high points from both his idea and his sophisticated finish.
